Jodhpur - The Blue City

After the hustle and bustle of Delhi, Jodhpur was a refreshing change of paceand we loved it there. Life is somewhat quieter in the blue city which gets its name from the azure paint applied to the buildings in the old town.

Apparently the paint is both cooling in the summer and acts as a natural bug repellent, so not just for appearances!
Its not just the charm of the buildings that makes Jodhpur such an awesome place to be, the people really make the city what it is. Unlike Delhi where everyone is rushing around minding their own business with little regard for whats going on around them, the people in Jodhpur are super kind and friendly. You wander the streets being greeted by everyone you meet and at no point do you feel unsafe or intimidated.

One of the best spots to take in this atmosphere is in the market around the clock tower. With all kinds of goods on offer and people galore it was a fun way to spend the afternoon.
Our final destination in Jodhpur was the Mehrangarh Fort atop of a hill in the centre of the city. Much to the surprise of the tuk tuk drivers we decided to walk the 4 km or so up the hill winding our way through the old town.

Once you have tackled the hill you are confronted by both a spectacular view of the city and that of the fort itself.

Along with it being an awe inspiring sight the fort is steeped in history. An audio tour is included in the price of entry which details both the fort itself and the treasures found inside. It is full of bits and bobs from artwork to weaponry (There are some stunning swords on display). Of course to see all of this you have to navigate the groups of people desperate to take a photograph with you or get to touch your skin!
All in all Jodhpur was well worth the visit and we wouod recommend it to anyone...
Onward to Jaipur!
