Jaipur - Markets and Elephants

The atmosphere in Jaipur is similar to that of Jodhpur, but a little more busy. Upon arrival we had someone run at us calling the name of our hotel, after walking 5-10m another turned up with our name and that of the hotel on a piece of paper. It turned out that the first guy had read our names on the sign and tried to poach us for himself. You have to give them an A for effort.

We started our trip in Jaipur with a walk up to the near by Monkey Temple, its about a 25 min hike up then back down a hill through tems of monkeys trying to steal what you're carrying.

Best seen at sunset for both the view of the city and the fact that the monkeys swarm there at night its a quaint little temple set in a valley and overrun by monkeys.

We finished off our first day in and around the market streets spending far too much money on high quality textiles to get sent home.

The following day has been the best so far. We spent almost the entire day getting up close and personal with an elephant at the elephant farm elefantastic.

We began the experience with a meet, greet and bond with our elephant Moti, feeding her trying to establish some trust. Moti was rescued from the circus so has less spots than most Asian elephants due to her mistreatment. Elephantistic is promoted as Indias first 'happy' elephant farm trying to change how elephants have been treated, and the tourist experiance is really just us tagging along with their daily routine.

Next we took part in some traditional elephant painting, but dont worry the paints are made of natural colours that are very skin friendly, plus next comes the really fun part; cleaning it all off!

After much scrubbing and enough water to fill a small lake we finifhed off our time with Moti by taking a ride through the local scrubland as she got her daily exercise.

This was one of the best days of our lives, never mind the trip so far. We had an amazing experience that we will never forget, and if you find yourself in Jaipur it's something not to miss.

Time to see if our first of the 7 wonders of the world can top it..... on to Agra and the Taj Mahal!
